Mission Leo-Possible

Jointly Organized by:
Leo Ng Sher Wu, Leo Club of Damansara Jaya
Leo Alex Leong, Leo Club of Taman Sea
Leo Jack Ng, Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity (O)

Venue: Taman Tun Dr Ismail Park, Agathians Shelter

On March 10th, project Mission Leo-Possible was organized by the Leo Club of Damansara Jaya in collaboration with the Leo Club of Taman Sea and Leo Club of PJI (Omega). The project's goal was to provide assistance to the Agathians Shelter while fostering teamwork and entrepreneur skills among the participants. The event was held at TTDI Park and attracted 90 participants consisting of Leo members from Taman Sea, Damansara Jaya, Taman Petaling, Assunta, PJI (O) as well as Lions club of Petaling Jaya members.

The participants were divided into 18 teams to form a team of five mostly consisting of a Lion, an Omega Leo and three Alpha Leos. Once the teams were formed, the organizing chairperson, Leo Ng Sher Wu gave a short speech and instructions to kick start the event. Modeled after the TV series "The Amazing Race", each team raced to solve puzzles strewn across the park area. Once a puzzle was solved, subsequent clues were provided which ultimately led them to collect ingredients to make sandwiches. Each team's handmade sandwiches are then sold to the general public to raise money for the final challenge. Hosted by Leo Jack and Leo Alex, the final challenge was an auction which had teams bid for items needed by the Agathian home. Subsequently, the designated driver for each team was to send their members to purchase the items and race back to the orphanage.

The first team to arrive back at the orphanage and thus crowned the winner was the team led by Leo Eric Teh (PJI) consisting of Monica Tan (Assunta), Crystal Yap (Assunta), Charis Lee (Assunta) and Joanne R. Jankins (Taman Sea). Once all teams have regrouped, Leos took the opportunity to mingle with the orphans in a cupcake-decorating session. The event ended at 3.00p.m. with a prize giving ceremony and a birthday celebration for a Leo member from Taman Sea. The project successfully raised and donated RM 2000 worth of essential goods and monetary funds to the Agathians shelter.

1 Year Later and A Thank You

Today marks the one year anniversary since the earthquake and tsunami devastated the North East coast of Japan. The disaster left a trail of death and destruction in its wake with approximately 22,000 dead or missing, and displacing 300,000 from their homes. The disaster also resulted in destruction and damage to major infrastructure including the Fukushima nuclear power plant which resulted in a nuclear fallout to the surrounding area. It remains as the second biggest nuclear accident since the Chernobyl disaster.

As international relief arrived to aid the disaster victims, our club gave our support in raising funds and donations. As a token of appreciation, the mayor of Matsudo city, Mr. Kenji Hongoya would like to thank those who generously provided financial aid in times of great need. The pictures below are the original and translated certificate of appreciation from Mr. Hongoya.
